Details
The second volume of English translations of selected Federal Constitutional Court decisions contains leading cases in the areas of freedom of opinion and artistic expression, of freedom of the press and broadcasting freedom. Moreover, the Court"s most important rulings on freedom of assembly and association are reproduced. Especially the Federal Constitutional Court"s case-law on the fundamental right to freedom of speech has significantly contributed to the development of the free, democratic, rule-of-law state of the Federal Republic of Germany. In this context, the publication also aims at facilitating and stimulating the international debate on citizens" political rights.
Former judges of the Federal Constitutional Court worked on the text of the selected decisions, making the necessary abridgements. The translations themselves were undertaken by a team of British and American translators, and a research assistant of the Court acted as final editor.
The volume has a foreword by Professor Dr. Jutta Limbach, President of the Federal Constitutional Court; moreover, it contains a roll of the Federal Constitutional Court judges since 1951 and selected provisions of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany. Each decision includes, inter alia, the headnotes of the decision and the names of the judges involved.
