Description
In many cases, international research on Europeanization investigates the impacts of European integration on national and subnational levels. EU member states and their regions are therefore at the centre of many studies. But what about the local level? Is there a Europeanization of cities? What is it like? And which factors accelerate or slow down changes there?
Barbara Sterl examines these questions and analyses Europeanization and its empirical implications at city level. She concentrates on EU environmental and cohesion policies and their consequences for the German cities of Dortmund and Nuremberg. Adaptation processes are analysed in the context of local policies, polities and politics, as is the extent of EU induced changes at a city level.
