This volume explores the potential of a form of theology that takes social problems as its starting point. It provides an optimistic outlook, because it shows that we can regard solutions to transdisciplinary and intercultural questions as aspects of a Christian interpretation of the present. Technology and religion are crucial factors in the reformation of social paradigms. Hydraulic engineering, steelworks and mining have been impregnated with religious hopes. Technological visions in India, China and Korea would be inconceivable without recourse to the claim of common sense and meaning, which also applies to genetic engineering and synthetic biology. Technology makes sense—worldwide. The author conducts research as a theologian and engineer at RWTH Aachen.
