Description
According to critics, post-Marxist theory fails to conceptualise the state. This volume contests that opinion and presents a multifaceted view of approaches to understanding the state by Abensour, Agamben, Badiou, Balibar, Bauman, Butler, Castoriadis, Deleuze and Guattari, Derrida, Hardt and Negri, Hall, Holloway, Lefort and Gauchet, Laclau and Mouffe, Nancy, Rancière and Žižek.
It discusses the pivotal concepts of these authors in an easily accessible form and differentiates them from Marxist and neo-Marxist understandings of the state.
The last part of the book describes the mutual influences between post-Marxist theories, on the one hand, and feminist and post-colonial theories, on the other, as well as the interrelationship between post-Marxist theories and contemporary political movements.
Thus, this volume offers a first overview of the concepts and impact of post-Marxist conceptualisations of the state.

Reviews
