Details
This volume celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Revised Mannheim Rhine Act of 1868, which implemented the freedom of shipping on the river Rhine. After centuries of disputes over prerogatives and influences, and a tenacious struggle over the last remaining tolls and staple privilege, the Mannheim Rhine Act finally installed a common administrative and juridical infrastructure to regulate shipping as well as the maintenance of the Rhine and its watersides. The Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine, which crafted the Mannheim Act and presides over its implementation, acts as a role model for international organisations in the area of economic, administrative, and political collaboration to this day. With contributions by Benedikt Bego-Ghina, M.A.; Prof. Dr. Marc De Decker; Bon C. de Savornin Lohmann; Theresia Hacksteiner, LL.M.; Prof. Dr. Hiram Kümper; Prof. Dr. Andreas Maurer, LL.M.; Prof. Dr. Thomas Nicklas; Dr. Klaus Ramming; Dr. Hanspeter Rings; Prof. Dr. Dieter Strauch; Jean-Marie Woehrling.
