20 Jahre Einsatz in Afghanistan

The renewed takeover of power in Afghanistan by the Taliban on August 15, 2021, almost 20 years after they were militarily defeated by the USA and its allies and were considered conquered, clearly shows that the project of building an Afghan state based on the Western model has failed. How did it come to this? What are the reasons for this outcome and what can and must be learned from it for the future? In this book, experts address these questions from political, military, social and cultural perspectives, and the various aspects and consequences of the aforementioned mission in Afghanistan are examined in order to derive lessons and recommendations for action in relation to future interventions that aim at state-building.
