Description
The education in schools for handicapped children and for children with special needs in Europe differs in practice because of different developments and aims in school policies. To assess school-political circumstances on the EC-level means at first to focus on these differences and to make them clear. In the past this was usually done theoretically at the level of the system with little regard to actual pedagogical practices. The present publication aims at contrasting the existing school systems with school realities. Therefore nine experts from nine EC-countries describe the school career of a fictitious student with „moderate learning difficulties“; beginning with the diagnosis and possible classifications of the learning problem, followed by concrete measures for providing additional help and taking into account the families and professionals involved as well as the existing conditions (e.g. society, administration). The aim of the book is to show and to exemplify the multiplicity of pedagogical practices we find in these EC-countries and which show the reader the „European Dimension“ in education.
