Granting an employee a leave of absence leads to a multitude of complex issues in the respect of both conventional and sports employment contracts. In this book, drawing on the fundamental structures of the general right to employment, the author examines the permissibility of leave of absence clauses in standard contracts and addresses the question of to what extent performance-based remuneration can be made dependent on the work that is conducted, which is of great practical relevance. The author discusses the particularities of granting a leave of absence in top-level professional football using the example of a Bundesliga head coach. His aim is to define the facts relating to granting a leave of absence and to suggest solutions to the consequences of paying an employee during a leave of absence, which are in the interests of all the parties concerned.
