Bürgermeister in Deutschland

This book not only examines the views of German mayors in municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants on problems in politics, but also their general attitudes and their self-perception as political protagonists in their respective municipalities. Based on a survey, the study analyses the socio-structural characteristics of mayors, their priorities in terms of policies, their notions of democracy and their views on parties in local politics, administrative reforms and the fiscal situation of municipalities. The results of the survey are continuously compared with another survey conducted ten years ago, which enables the reader to trace any changes that have occurred since then. Additionally, the book compares differences between mayors across the German states, and it provides informed and empirically substantiated insights into local politics from the perspective of key political players.
