Details
This study examines the concept of human dignity in Neo-Confucianism, considering the key concepts of dignity in European philosophy. While the concept of human dignity gained normativity after the Second World War, it has been increasingly criticised in comparative philosophy since the end of the last century. Is the concept strictly binding or is it merely a product of Western culture? Moreover, when Confucians also speak of human dignity, what do they mean by it? Does this concept of dignity have completely different content? By addressing these questions, this study provides comparative impetus for both the debate on dignity and research into Chinese philosophy.
