What does ‘governance’ mean? And what does ‘democratic governance’ mean?
These questions, which seem to be so simple, are not easy to answer. Democratic political theory focuses on the alternating government. Its aim is to reinforce the governing democracy in several respects, one of which is good governance. But how much democracy does good governance need? Which elements of a citizens’ democracy can be strengthened?
In this book, the author develops and supports a form of participatory consciousness among citizens which remains realistic. Citizens, in the sense of ‘citoyens’, that is, citizens whose citizenship is not tied to the state, are to be regarded as real and not ideal. They go on the offensive when they become political, which is the basis of democratic governance.
