Details
This work examines whether the particular legal protection of personality rights afforded to minors by law with regard to the danger posed by the media sufficiently defends underage children of famous people against violations of these rights caused by press coverage. The author studies the constitutional and civil law specifics of the protection of personality rights afforded to minors and considers interdisciplinary aspects of developmental psychology, including the possible effects of media coverage on self-development. Her subsequent critical examination of selected rulings reveals discrepancies in terms of the scope of protection and the limitations of the protection the law gives to underage children with celebrity parents. To make the protection of their personality rights more effective, the author proposes, among other things, establishing consideration guidelines and standardising particular forms of protection of personality rights in the press’s code of ethics.
