The service industry is one of the most important economic sectors for value creation and employment in Germany. This sector is as diverse as it is complex and ranges from personal services to service systems in manufacturing industries or in the energy, mobility and healthcare sectors. However, this central importance has not yet been reflected in an understanding of the necessity of its systematic development and its appropriate consideration in research funding policy. The perspective of users and customers is also given too little consideration. A level model of service science is being developed that provides an appropriate framework for placing services in a comprehensive context, which is absolutely essential for the successful further development of services. This book is based on its authors many years of experience and their technical expertise in research funding in the fields of employment and service research.
