What do different sciences look for in human beings? By examining illustrative phenomena of the human condition, this volume offers insight into the diverse lines and horizons of inquiry from theology, cultural anthropology, sociology, linguistics and journalism. The collection of essays addresses a wide range of topics, including but not limited to: questions of transhumanism and the proprium of humans in relation to machines and AI; questions of forgiveness, self-love and comfort; humility, self-righteousness and evil; the meaning of rituals; phenomena of non-ideal language use such as bullshitting or lying; curiosity and the voyeuristic needs of humans.
