Description
Niklas Baehr uses the court decision of the case “Jigzaw v. die Geissens” to examine the tension between artistic freedom and general personal rights in German gangster and battle rap. He argues that in the age of online art consumption, the legal interpretation of a work should be based on the standards of recipients who are familiar with the art form in question. Since the art form of rap lyrics is characterised by stylistic devices such as exaggeration and alienation, the principles of separation of content and form developed for satire should also apply.
