This volume sheds light on the status of the humanities in the Soviet Union, using the Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan as an example. The work presented here for the first time in translation is the literary thesis of the well-known Azerbaijani writer Mir Cəlal (1908–1978), written from the late 1920s and submitted in 1940. It is dedicated to the study of the life and works of the important Azerbaijani poet Füzuli (1494–1556) and is considered a milestone in this respect.
