This volume contains papers presented at a conference on benefits and costs of German reunification. One looks for the reasons why comprehensive research on the benefits is missing and why political discussion is much more concerned with costs than with benefits.
Other deal with volume and effects of public transfers to East Germany, with the convergence process, negotiation between municipalities and enterprises regarding enterprise settlement, the relocation of the German capital from Bonn to Berlin on a regional policy perspective and the Treuhand policy with respect to the goals of German unification. The final papers call attitudes to additions, especially East German, in the transformation process.
