Broadcasters have always found it difficult to acquire rights because of the mass and diversity of the rights they require. With the growing importance of conveying audio-visual content via new distribution channels, in particular via "the Internet", these problems have been extended. The European Commission is attempting to address these problems in part and has adopted appropriate reforms with the Portability Regulation and the SatCab Online Directive. This book examines these reforms and traces the copyright framework underlying the acquisition of rights by broadcasting companies, from the exploitation rights concerned to the granting of the rights of use.
