What are the processes and structures that—in the theoretical alignment of the influential French philosopher Louis Althusser—represent nothing less than the objects of the sciences? This eminent question guides this book, which hence tackles several specific tasks at once: an explanation of Althusser’s complicated philosophy (and how it differs from certain other philosophies) and the determination of the concepts of processes and structures in selected sciences and scientific fields of research respectively (namely—but weighted differently—in the theory of economic structures, the theory of ideology, the theory of the history of theoretical formations, ethnology and in the theory of the psychic unconscious).
