Public Health

The textbook ‘Public Health’ brings together historical and current definitions and concepts of health as well as strategies and actors from this field. It explains how social, political, economic and environmental factors influence the health of different groups, e.g. men and women, the young and the old, or especially poor people. It shows why health prospects are unequally distributed and why disadvantaged groups fall ill earlier and more frequently in life. This book introduces the most important health problems, explains concepts of health promotion and prevention, and discusses practical intervention strategies for specific areas of activity such as sexual and reproductive health or urban health.
