Staatlichkeit und Governance in Transformation
Details
The aim of the book is to analyse how public spending on the state level in six federal systems is affected by socio-economic context and political factors. Statistical models basing on a time series cross sectional dataset are used for comparative analysis.
The first focus of the book is testing classical hypothesis from political economy (parties’ ideology, rational choice behaviour of political actors, distribution conflicts within legislatures and governments). Additionally, fiscal relations between the national and the state level as well as state-to-state relations are starting points for further analysis.
The book provides a detailed view behind the scenes of federal fiscal relations basing on statistical data, for which the comparative perspective cross-cutting countries is overdue. Despite large variances in terms of the countries’ organisational structure, the book elaborates similarities in fiscal behaviour of the state level.
