Surviving the Stalemate: Approaches to Strengthening the Palestinian Entity

Europe provides the biggest share of international aid to the Palestinians. Against the background of the current stalemate in the peace process, a reorientation of European policies towards the Palestinian Authority is at place. The approach proposed in this book is based on the assumption that the stability, viability and peacefulness of the Palestiniann entity is not only dependent on the solution of the Israeli-Palestinian territorial conflict, but also depends on the establishment of a Palestinian system of governance that provides for the inclusion of all societal forces into the political decision-making process, the rule of law and an accountable government.
This study contains the contribution of the editors detailing the outlined policy approach as well as eight background chapters on specific aspects of the developing Palestinian political system and the role of the EU. It addresses policy makers, but will also be useful for others interested in the region as it provides experts" insight into current developments in the Palestinian territories.
