The present volume contains some revised lectures given on the general theme "Theories and Policy of Regional Competition" at the Eleventh European Advanced Studies Institute in Regional Science – Summer Institute 1998 – of the European Regional Science Association, at the University of the Federal Armed Forces of Germany, Munich, from August l4 – 22, 1998. These lectures are compiled under the title "Theories of Regional Competition".
Simultaneously, another volume containing related contributions, "Policies of Regional Competition", has been published by the Nomos-Verlag, Baden-Baden. A third volume "Regional Competition" was before published by Springer/Heidelberg. The University of the Federal Armed Forces at Munich will edit further papers.
We associate the 13 contributions to this volume with the following chapters:
Chapter One "Competition Models" with contributions by Walter Buhr, Hagen Bobzin, Sakari T. Jutila, Jean H. P. Paelinck, Yuzuru Miyata, Wilfried Schulz.
Chapter Two "Infrastructure as a Determinant of Regional Competition" with contributions by Johannes Bröcker, Bruno Dejon, Yoshiro Higano.
Chapter Three "Methodology of Regional Competition" with contributions by Yoshio Kimura, John R. Roy, Armin Schmutzler and Andreas Polk, Frank Leibbrand.
