Fatherhood as part of masculine idproduct permeates all levels of human coexistence and requires the constant interpretation of one's own fatherhood as well as the maintenance of paternal practices. Through separation or divorce, frames and practices of fatherhood that are taken for granted enter into a process of reinterpretation. This study addresses the question of which factors influence the shaping of the relationship between a father and a child after a separation or divorce and, at the interface of family and gender sociology, can make a valuable contribution to explaining the diversity of the negotiation of fatherhood, even beyond the boundaries of this field of study.
