Details
The European Union is currently dealing with several crisis phenomena which have negatively affected its ability to act. A constitutional perspective reveals that the basic legal values of the EU themselves, but also the states that are united in sharing them, are not naturally accepted everywhere anymore. The contributions to this anthology deal with this issue and investigate the constitutional values of the EU as well as systemic changes of the constitutional order in individual member states. For this purpose, the character of the union as a legal community is discussed initially. With respect to the member states, the application of the so-called rule of law in the case of Poland, as well as the important role of the Venice Commission, are investigated. With respect to the conflict between constitutional autonomy and the integration into the EU, the member state Hungary, the leaving country Great Britain, and the aspiring member Turkey are presented and analysed.
