Description
The strangeness of the Other is answered by an ontological model of serenity as resignativity.
Serenity means abdication of the self and its opening towards the Other. Because the difference of subjectivity and alterity shows up in subjectivity itself as a dialectic of giver and receiver, we as subjects are required to act as striving and letting go. But the duality of action presupposes the unity of being, which is the condition of the obligatedness of subjectivity through alterity and of the commitment of subjectivity for alterity. This determinateness of being forms the foundation of a hermeneutics which grasps the task of self-understanding of subjectivity as self-limitation.
