Description
The technologies of virtual reality and the filtered selfie are identified in this book as elements of a contemporary religion. This technoscientific religion is involved in a fundamental transformation of modern subjectivation processes, which the author demonstrates moving from the Christian logic of identification to the technoscientific mise en scène of the Imago Dei on the screen-stages of social media. The analysis is based on Jacques Lacan's philosophy of the subject and Pierre Legendre's structural theory, which has received little attention in German-speaking contexts. The book offers new impulses for religious studies to integrate psychoanalytical approaches into their production of theory.
