Kulturtechniken

The studies collected in this book illustrate a basic theory and methodology of cultural techniques research using concrete historical case studies. Accordingly, this book aims to analyse situations of elementary symbolisation processes in which the distinctions between the real and the symbolic, medium and content, and what is human and non-human are suspended and thus appear to be in the process of becoming. These situations range from the separation or fusion of a message and a channel to the delicate act of eating, from the crisscrossed distinction between going inside and outside through doors to the fusion of ground and figure through textile media, and from the beginning of counting to the collapse of antropological differences.
