englischWe recognise a familiar piece of music after just a tenth of a second. Plink research investigates this auditory performance using short excerpts from pop songs. Which information components are decisive for their recognition has not been examined in detail so far. Felix Thiesen is the first to investigate the significance of intra- and extramusical parameters. Two main studies with about 1000 participants show strong influences of the type and number of arrangement components present. Vocal information components and the entropy of the material are also of great importance. By placing the findings in a cohort model of microtemporal music perception, the author creates a link to established concepts of speech processing.
