Die Geschichte der konfessionskulturellen Prägung des Christentums durch seine Katholisierung ist ein bis heute unabgeschlossener Prozess. An ihm zeigt sich: In den bislang 2000 Jahren des immer wieder neu bedachten Verhältnisses der Kirche zu sich selbst wie zur „Welt vor den Toren der Kirche“ (E. Langgässer) hat sich ‚das‘ Katholische zu einer Fülle weltweiter, zeitlich wie kulturräumlich differenzierter Katholizismen entfaltet. Deren Gestaltbildungen wie Dynamiken nehmen die Studien und Quellensammlungen der vorliegenden Reihe in den Blick: interdisziplinär, konfessions- und religionsvergleichend.

The history of Christianity's cultural imprint through its catholicisation is a process that is still ongoing today. It shows that in the 2000 years of the Church's constantly reconsidered relationship to itself and to the "world outside the gates of the Church" (E. Langgässer), Catholicism has developed into a wealth of worldwide forms of Catholicism that differ in terms of time and cultural space. The studies and collections of sources in this series take an interdisciplinary, interdenominational and inter-religious approach to the formations and dynamics of Catholicism’s forms.
